What is EDHT?
The East Dorset Heritage Trust is an environmental education
charity, founded in 1987. Its aims include stimulating interest in the landscape,
wildlife and archaeology of the area, fostering an awareness of environmental
management and the community, providing an open forum for anyone with local
environmental interests and developing new approaches to environmental education.
The Trust organises and supports a number of activities which further its
aims, including a new range of IT based courses organised with the assistance
of Dorset Adult Education and Bournemouth & Poole College.
Aims of the Trust
To stimulate interest in the landscape, wildlife, archaeology, architecture
and history of the District: to enhance visitor appreciation of the area and
its attractions.
To raise awareness of how the community can influence the management of the
environment..
To provide a forum for people with special environmental, academic and teaching
skills to share their interest and expertise with children, visitors and the
local community.
To complement these organisations already involved in interpretation within
the District and help relate their activities within the wider context.
To develop new approaches to environmental education, which give people skills
to learn about and interact with their environment and to support sustainable
lifestyles.
