Tractor & Trailer Scheme

The Trust established this scheme in 1992 to provide access to the countryside for groups or organisations who cater for people with mobility problems and over 1,000 people of all ages have been able to see sights previously denied them. A Kubota 1550 tractor tows a specially designed trailer onto which 8 wheelchairs can be securely locked. Safety belts and wet weather protection are also available.

Throughout the summer the project is kept busy taking groups around such places as Kingston Lacy, Moors Valley Country Park and Wareham Forest. One of the most exciting trips is to Brownsea Island. The waterborne stage of this trip is carried out with the assistance of the Royal Marines, based at Hamworthy, who land the Tractor & Trailer on a slipway by the jetty in one of their landing craft.

The cost of running the project is offset by donations from local groups and charities. There is no charge for booking the Tractor and Trailer but users are invited to make a donation towards the upkeep and maintenance of the equipment.

The project is available for any group of people with mobility problems and, subject to previous bookings, is available at any time of the year.

Booking is available through Alan Wilson at Allendale House.
