The pillbox, built in 1940 at the time of threatened invasion of England by the German Army, is the only accessible pillbox remaining in Blandford. It is positioned above an anti-tank ditch converted from a ‘ha-ha’ (a unique feature in England) and the whole site was recently granted Grade II listing. This defensive position was vital to the defence of Blandford which had been designated as a “strong point” along the line of the River Stour.
