Dorset Architectural Heritage Week - Looking Back & Looking Forward
As Dorset Architectural Heritage Week (DAHW) fades into memory for another year
we are taking stock of this year's events and starting to look forward to 2010.
2009 was another very good year for Heritage Week events with the two organised
trips, one by coach and one by boat, being very well attended. During late September
and early October we try and gather as much feedback from both event holders
and attendees and we are pleased to report that the vast majority of the comments
have been complimentary such as 'So much to see! Well done and much enjoyed.'
One issue that has arisen this year is the growing rift between the Dorset Architectural
Heritage Week events and those of the national Heritage Open Days weekend. It
has always been the intention that DAHW is a full part of the Heritage Open
Days and events continue throughout Dorset for a full week because there are
just too many interesting properties to fit into one weekend!
In order to address this problem Dorset Architectural Heritage Week will be
changing in 2010. The start date for events will move back from Saturday to
Thursday to match that of Heritage Open Days. In addition the name will be changing
from the familiar Dorset Architectural Heritage Week to 'Dorset Heritage Open
Days.' There will still be the same interesting mix of property visits, talks
and walks just under a new name. The 2010 dates will be Thursday 9th to Wednesday
15th September.
